about

2020 marks 30 years of DJing for Craig De Sousa – it’s been a journey filled with music for which he will eternally be grateful. In 2002, De Sousa released his first mesmerizing mix, From Paris With Love. Now, nine compilations later, he’s put together something very special – an album for the fans, paying homage to their loyalty, encouragement and support over the years. His message to those fans? “This musical journey has only been possible because you understood and responded so beautifully to the story I was telling through my music. Your encouragement pushed me in a direction I never thought possible and as a result I’ve lived a life working with my first love and passion – music. This album is my way to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Not just happy with mixing, De Sousa has, over the years, pushed himself into the realm of electronic music production. Twenty years ago in South Africa, there was not much infrastructure to study this art, so De Sousa sought to spend time in Paris learning what he could about French House production. It was this “Daft Punk” musical pilgrimage where he also purchased all the vinyls to record his Deeper Sounds of Craig De Sousa albums: From Paris with Love and The French Affair. Little did he understand the profound impact this would all have on his career and the long-lasting influence it would have on his life.
Collaborations with local producers helped fast-track the learning process and led to some of his early releases with aliases such as Dipped Chocolate with Erefaan Pearce and Porchy with Roger D’Lux with whom he started the label Heads & Tails Music. The SA House music revolution had begun and gave rise to a special new contribution to House music that is now leading the way internationally.
De Sousa’s love for live performance started when he joined his first band, Iridium Project, writing the hit single “Lu’s Control”. In the past few years, De Sousa has focused on producing his first solo live act – Vasco Jr. (named after his late father) – and he will be releasing a debut album soon.
